As soon as a living entity is born who is able to weigh up good and evil, or perhaps, you’d say, is conscious of himself as a living entity taking actions, the law of cause and effect comes into play. Every action has an opposite reaction. Every thought you think, every action you do will come back to you. Often it takes many lifetimes to reap the benefits or disadvantages of cause and effect. Jesus said, “As you sow, so shall you reap”.
However the motive for the action or thought is the key to reward or disadvantage.
If you give a million pounds to charity because you want self-gratification, fame or praise, the effect of the action will be bad. If you give a million pounds to charity anonymously with no wish for thanks or praise (thanks is a kind of praise) in a spirit of selfless love, the effect will be good.
Lets take commonly said words “Oh, go to hell”
If you think or say, “Oh, go to hell” in anger and irritation, the motive is selfishness, the effect is bad. If you say “Oh, go to hell” because you are attending to a heart attack patient or an accident and it’s critical you have your full attention on him without the distraction of whoever/whatever is upsetting it, the effect of your words are lessened. If you say “Oh, go to hell” with full love for someone in you heart as a term of friendship, laughter or play, then the effect is good.
The words are just words – the motive for saying them is the important thing.
